Andrew Zimmern’s Flashback Stresses The Importance Of Mens Drug And Alcohol Treatment Centers

Andrew Zimmern, star of the Bizarre Foods show on the Travel Channel, has opened up about his past when he suffered from addiction, posting a photo on Instagram where he’s holding up a glass of wine, which looked innocent enough at first, but Zimmern called it a “Throwaway your life throwback pic. 1982 or so, deranged drunk and drugged. I was a dangerous mess and still took almost a decade to sober up.”

*Although Zimmern is smiling in the picture, “the smile on the outside is a mask,” he continues. “The pain inside was unimaginable and indescribable. Thankfully I don’t feel that way or live that way anymore.”

*Zimmern’s confession, like the confessions of many celebrities in recovery, outlines the importance of mens drug and alcohol treatment centers. His life was saved by one when his friends put him on a planet to a treatment center in 1982, and he’s reportedly been sober ever since.

*At his lowest, Zimmern was homeless and stealing from people to survive. He told ABC News that while he’s not proud of his behavior before he sobered up, he added that “Any decision that I make, anything I do, every single consideration of my day goes through the prism of what my former experiences has been. I have a life based on completely different principles now, and I try to stick with those. I think it has been the secret to my success.”
