Another Reason to Seek Out Alcohol Treatment Centers: The Risk Of Dementia

Among the many health problems alcohol can cause, dementia is another concern if you are drinking too much and are in need to seek out an alcohol treatment center.

*As a report in Express.co.uk tells us, a number of universities doing research on alcohol abuse states that even drinking a glass of wine or a pint of beer could eventually have long term consequences.

*This report comes from the Journal of Public Health, and overseas in England and Wales, deaths due to neurological problems have outpaced heart disease. Researchers looked into the link between alcohol and Alzheimer’s, and as this report states, “Consuming more than one UK standard unit of alcohol per day is detrimental to cognitive performance and is more pronounced in older populations.” (The UK standard for alcohol is 16 grams a day.)

*This report is especially troubling considering that in the UK, a reported three to five adults say they drink to try and cope with life, meaning that many will have to seek out alcohol treatment centers down the road. As a source tells Express, “While people might think having a drink after a hard day can help them relax, in the long run it can contribute to feelings of depression and anxiety and make stress harder to deal with. This is because regular, heavy drinking interferes with the neurotransmitters in our brains that are needed for good mental health.”
