The holidays can be a very stressful time, even though we’re supposed to be enjoying ourselves and being grateful for what we have. It can also be a very trying time for those suffering from addiction, but some graduates from a men’s sober living home have learned to enjoy turkey day sober.
*As Port Clinton News Herald reports, it can be a whole new ballgame enjoying the holidays sober. As one person in recovery told the paper, “This is the first year I haven’t gone out the night before Thanksgiving,” and he would party hard the night before. “The holidays are hard,” he ads. “Hard to stay away from it. It’s everywhere.”
*After attending a sober living home in Ohio, a number of the men attending had to readjust to the holidays. One would only spend several hours with his family before heading back to his sober living home, and it would be his first Thanksgiving sober. “I’m pretty nervous,” this person said. “That’s why I’m not going to stay too long. It’s going to be a struggle day, but I’m sure I’ll get through it.”
*And if people suffering from addiction have nowhere to go on Thanksgiving, some sober living homes have Thanksgivings where people in recovery can celebrate being sober together, and make the holidays much safer and enjoyable.
