A Look Inside a Christian Treatment Center for Men in Vancouver

You don’t have to believe in God to turn your life over to a higher power, but there are Christian treatment centers for men for people who want to use their faith to keep them sober.

As Religion News Service reports, one is Luke 15 House in Vancouver, British Columbia. (Verse Luke 15 has the “Parable of the Lost Sheep” and “The Parable of the Prodigal Son.”) And with the British Columbia health care system, an addict can get $30 in Canadian currency (or $21 in American money) per day for their treatment, which patients give back to the house so they can stay. (The center asks patients to stay for ten months.)

Luke 15 is a Christian treatment center for men that uses the 12-steps along with scripture to help keep patients clean, and this report says that there are nineteen faith based recovery centers in the area. As Paul Ruud, program director at Luke 15, says, “Having an encounter with Jesus breaks every chain in our lives.”

Whether a recovery center is a Christian treatment center for men or not, because of the opioid crisis, recovery centers are desperately needed in British Columbia, with over 900 people dying of drug overdoses last year, which is a record, up 80% from 2015.

As Religion News Service reports, “In the early 2000s, Canadians were being prescribed opioids such as oxycodone even for chronic pain. Illicit manufacturers soon began producing fentanyl pills using cheap, easily imported chemicals from China, and first responders started seeing staggering numbers of overdoses.”
