A Rapper Checking In To Rehab for Depression Sheds an Important Light on Mental Health

While many have a hard time getting their head around the idea that many have to check into rehab for depression, but rapper Kid Cudi has checked into rehab for what he calls “depression and suicidal urges.” His public statement on seeking help also highlights the stigma many have about seeking health for mental health.

*As Cudi wrote on Facebook, “It’s been difficult for me to find the words to what I’m about to share with you because I feel ashamed. Ashamed to be a leader and hero to so many while admitting I’ve been living a lie. It took me a while to get to this place of commitment, but it is something I have to do for myself, my family, my best friend / daughter and all of you, my fans.”

*Cudi added that he is “not at peace. I haven’t been since you’ve known me. If I didn’t come here, I would’ve done something to myself…There’s a ragin’ violent storm inside of my heart at all times. Idk [I don’t know] what peace feels like. Idk [I don’t know] how to relax.”

*While it’s been hard for Cudi to come to terms with his personal demons and admit he needs help, but he added, “I’m scared, I’m sad…It’s time I fix me. I’m nervous but I’ma [going to] get through this.”
